The member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) have issued a strong statement rejecting the recent unilateral coercive measures imposed by the Government of Canada on a group of officials from the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

This action, ALBA-TCP declares, aligns with the sanctions policies promoted by the United States and represents an attempt to destabilize Venezuela under the pretext of defending “democracy.”

The communiqué stresses that these “sanctions,” poorly qualified by the countries that impose them, are, in reality, a “failed effort” to pressure Venezuela and facilitate a forced change of government. This is contrary to the principles established in the Charter of the United Nations and international law, explains the document.

The members of ALBA-TCP emphasize that Venezuela has the inalienable right to build its own political and economic model without external interference.

In addition, the position of the Canadian government is criticized; by following the dictates of Washington, it exposes itself to being treated with contempt by U.S. political actors.

ALBA-TCP demands respect for the sovereignty of the Venezuelan people and condemns “this new wave of illegal and arbitrary measures,” reaffirming its commitment to self-determination and the well-being of the South American country.

The rejection by ALBA-TCP is part of a broader context of resistance against interventionist policies in Latin America, highlighting the importance of regional unity in the face of actions that threaten peace and stability in the region.
